"I was born a flower, grown and nurtured by the great goddess Mother Nature, rooted well in rich soil, and stronger than the fiercest rain. Maybe that's why I have never been alive during the winter months, with their gray clouds and angry winds, bitter storms and freezing temperatures. I, being a flower, could never thrive away from the sun.

I could never figure out what kind of flower I was. It seemed as though everyone else knew, but whispered their secret passions to the trees instead. Regardless, I always thought I was a lily. I was in awe of those beautiful arrays of whites, oranges, pinks and yellows, with elegant leaves that resembled long gloves a woman would wear to an old fashioned ball. Maybe I had a light dusting of brown feckles exploding from my core out. Maybe I was pure white, as beautiful as the full moon on a dark night. That's what I dreamed for; to know that I was a lily, the queen of the garden."
